The Department of Agriculture out with its first monthly report of the year and says the year over year production of US meat is rising.

"We are talking about increasing overall meat production by more than 3 billion pounds so you might expect a little bit of softening of prices year over year."

Hog prices increased a quarter in January from the previous month.

Broiler prices rose 2 cents.

Meyers says the increase in consumer demand in behind the recent increase in animal meat prices.

The USDA is preparing for its annual Agricultural Outlook Forum. The theme this year is "The Roots of Prosperity. It will be held in Arlington February 22 and 23rd.

Deputy Ag Secretary Steve Censky said the forum is open to all farmers ranchers and ag industries. Sessions will include discussions on agriculture and trade, agriculture policy, rural development, conservation and advances in technology.
