50 thousand Colorado farmers are being asked to let themselves be counted in the Census of Agriculture.

Bill Meyer at the regional office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service says every 5 years this census it taken by every farmer and rancher in the state.

"And it's such a valuable tool."

Meyer says there is a big push for producers to answer the census online this year. He says this online experience is much more user-friendly than the first online experience 5 years ago.

"The results of it will be coming out January 2019. "

That data can then be used by researchers at CSU for example to determine if more study needs to be done on a certain commodity. Census data is also used to determine levels of federal funding in Colorado's rural communities.

The online census form is at www.Agcensus.usda.gov.
