Close to 60 thousand Future Farmers of America travelled from across the country to meet at the 90th Annual FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue helped welcomed the participants to the convention

Perdue shared stories of his childhood - as the son of a Georgia farmer and told the thousands of young people how important it was for them to learn how to tell their individual and families stories - to share the value and heritage farming and ranching.

"Learn to communicate because you've got a great story to tell. America's farmers and ranchers feed and clothe the world."

The convention's theme this year was "I Can. We Will."

Secretary Perdue tweeted out a photo of himself standing with a group of young convention goers with the message. One third of American farmers are over the age of 65. Time for the next generation -- and here they are!

Perdue also moderated a discussion about the necessity of balancing U.S. crops for human food consumption, animal feed, and fuel.

Laila Ali, boxer and daughter of boxing legend Muhammed Ali gave an opening session speech and the attendees also got to see a live performance of Rascal Flatts.
