Noxious Weed Advisory Committee

The Colorado Department of Agriculture is looking for a few dedicated volunteers to serve on the Noxious Weed Advisory Committee.

The aim of the Noxious Weed program is to control the non-native aggressive invaders that replace native vegetation, reduce agricultural productivity, cause wind and water erosion and pose an increased threat to communities from wildfire.

Steve Ryder the program coordinator says the Committee was created in 2003 and it meets quarterly.

"The State Noxious Weed Advisory was created back when the Noxious Weed Act was passed by the state legislature. The idea was to make sure the department of Agriculture had the best information possible from a variety of sources and geographical areas of the state. There are 17 members on the committee."

The terms members can serve two two-year terms. This year 4 positions are expiring. The committee is looking to add a county commissioner or county manager, an agricultural producer, a representative from the Green Industry that is someone who works in horticulture, greenhouse, nursery, and similar endeavors and a representative from a conservation organization .

Nominations are currently being accepted and must be submitted no later than December 1st. More information can be found at the website: Colorado.gov
