Forest Stewardship Tour June 22nd

The Western Landowners Alliance is a member-based nonprofit organization that was founded to improve dialogue and increase the ecological health and economic vitally of working lands in the West.

Next Thursday, June 22nd, they will be hosting a free forest tour near Walden beginning at 9 a.m. til 4 p.m and lunch is included. WLA Executive Director Lesli Allison provides more details.

Allison: "This is a forestry tour — a stewardship tour — in Northern Colorado. It is going to be on Colorado state Forest Service land. We're going to be talking about different types of forest treatments on that landscape. We'll be looking at treatments that have been done over a number of decades, so that we can see the effects of treatment that was done in the 80s. Now if you go out and take a look at it, they consider it to be the healthiest part of that forest. So we can see how these changes take affect and then look at more recent harvest look at more recent harvests look on the ground and what the thinking behind those treatments. We will be looking at issues like fire management and cross boundary management — which is a big issue for a lot of our landowners who have neighboring public lands of one type or another. There will be different agencies there and landowners there for an open conversation about the state of forestry."

The event is free, but they ask that you RSVP by Monday, June 19th — you can go to westernlandownersalliance.org for more information.
