Colorado Proud June Recipe Celebrates Dairy Month

Each month, the Colorado Department of Agriculture features a different commodity to highlight the variety and quality of products grown, raised or processed in the state. Colorado Department of Agriculture Marketing Specialist Wendy White shares more about this month's featured commodity

White: "June is National Dairy Month and it is also the start to summer so the perfect time to enjoy all of those dairy treats — like milk, cheese, yogurt and of course ice cream. Colorado is actually home to 148,000 milk cows producing 436 million gallons of milk each year. So you can eat a lot of cookies to go along with all that milk. Our recipe this month features home-made yogurt. So a lot of tips and tricks to making yogurt at home."

As the summer season kicks in, so does the many farmers markets across the state. If you are unfamiliar with the dates, times and locations of farmers markets near you, White advises

White: "The Colorado Farm Fresh Directory is now available. So we should have it available in printed form soon. It is available on on our website at coloradoagriculture.com. It lists all the farmers markets, roadside stands, u-picks, agritourism activities and wineries across the state. So it is great handy publication to keep with you throughout the summer."
