Nominations Sought for Noxious Weed Advisory Committee

There will be three available positions on the State Noxious Weed Advisory Committee come December. Nominations are actively being sought now to fill these important positions. Colorado Department of Agriculture State Weed Coordinator Steve Ryder shares more about the available positions — two of the positions will be representing the state’s agricultural industries
Ryder: “We have two on the committee but we will be losing two. These can come from anywhere in the state. The two that are leaving the committee are both on the Western Slope. We have committee members from the eastern plains. We are always looking for somebody from the San Luis Valley. The third position is a local government official. We are looking for a municipal official — whether it be a town manager, city manager or a public works director or something like that to join the committee.”
So do prospective applicants have particular skills or knowledge to be eligible? Ryder says
Ryder: “The expertise and experience that people can bring to the job. The ag producers — we are hoping they have experience in any form of agriculture. It’s just really open to people who have an interest in it. The communication works in two directions. With that committee they provide advice to the Department of Ag but at the same time they get what the department is doing and considering and can take that back to their communities and their associations as well.”Nominations must be submitted no later than October 20th. More information can be found under the “News” section on www.colorado.gov/ag.
