Innovation To Change Ag

Innovation To Change Ag

Innovation To Change Ag. I'm Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

Questions are being asked worldwide as to how we are going to be able to feed the increased population with less farmland and fewer farmers. It will come down to innovation and smarter agriculture. Many companies are looking into ways to become smarter with growing and harvesting. Companies like John Deere have had to change and adapt over the years. Cory Reed of John Deere and Company.

REED: To be able to understand agronomy in a way that we know how it gets applied through the hard iron moving the field and what software and what tools for visualization and decision making and implementation can you give a producer that'll allow them to turn those insights into changes in how they work in the field and decisions that they make about how to produce a crop better. Easier, smarter, more precise.

Reed says that from the days of just a tractor running around a field tilling, planting and ultimately harvesting the use of innovative technology has really changed the face of how we grow from a big field sized picture down to individual plants.

REED: As the industries changing precision is being driven through the technologies available to move from average at the farm or field level down to the square meter and today in the universities with ag programs around the world are working on plant-by-plant type technologies to understand how you can appropriately put the right seed in the right place but understand throughout the growing cycle how healthy it is and how you care for it.

Innovation, biotechnology and big data will all continue to play very important roles in the future of agriculture.

And that's Colorado Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
