Advancing Ag Summit

Advancing Ag Summit

Advancing Ag Summit. I'm Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

To feed an additional 2 billion people by the year 2050 agriculture is going to need to change but what will that change look like? The "Advancing the Agriculture Economy Through Innovation" summit will be held March 18-20 at CSU's Lory Student Center where they will delve into that question. Kathay Rennels is the Assistant Vice President of Engagement at Colorado State University.

RENNELS: We have two percent of us in Colorado that still live on the land and work it which in reverse means 98% do not so the understanding of the larger production agriculture component is beginning to diminish. We have for years created innovation to make more crop, to make more corn, to make more wheat, to grow more organic cattle, to make more milk but many times it's not by intent, it's by survival.

The event will demonstrate the broad scope and significance of the industry within Colorado and the world, while connecting innovators prepared to reimagine its future.

RENNELS: In the last ten years I have a grandson that runs things from an iPad. You can look at the iPad and you can tell what that tractor is doing, you can tell where that tractor is but you also get to know what that tractors doing, how much moisture, what the crop yield is, what the fuel is that they're taking in. So yo can literally precision down and save. You can use less pesticide, yo can use less gasoline, you can use less water.

The public is invited to attend an Innovation Fair, running concurrent to the summit on March 19 and 20, that will showcase emerging ideas and technologies from businesses, faculty, students, and the public sector.

And that's Colorado Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
