Lacy Gray again joins us to share a recent story of how EPA has picked a Colorado ag official to help advise on ag issues. Which is a very good move.
GRAY: Yes, it is especially since some of EPA's recent decisions seem to have completely ignored agriculture.
MARTIN: Like the Waters of the U.S. issue.
GRAY: And the dust particulate issue. Well now former Deputy Ag Commissioner, Ron Carleton has been picked by EPA to advise the agency on farm policy and serve as a liaison to farmers and ranchers. Besides being the deputy ag commissioner for the state he spent more than three decades on Capitol Hill handling agriculture, energy, environment, water and land management issues. Carleton replaces acting agricultural counselor Allison Wiedeman, who came from EPA's Office of Water last March.
MARTIN: Carleton has also been instrumental in helping to write and implement some of Colorado's regulations for hemp farming as well as working on the aforementioned WOTUS proposal.
GRAY: His appointment should be a big win for both EPA and agriculture.
MARTIN: Thanks Lacy. Carleton spent six years as chief of staff to then-Rep. John Salazar, whom he joined in the Colorado Department of Agriculture in 2012, more than a year after Salazar was appointed to head the department after his re-election loss.
