Food Prices Rising

It's a new year and grocery store food prices seem to be doing something new--something they haven't done in several years.

Food prices in grocery stores are going up...

Annemarie Kuhns, USDA economist, says that the biggest food price hikes last month were in the fruit and vegetable categories.

And the USDA Chief Economist Rob Johansson says beef cattle and hog prices are higher, compared with last month, lower than a year ago.

One reason for higher food prices could boil down to shipping cost -- which are going up. Any industry involved in the food business, that experiences a price increase, will certainly pass that higher price along to the consumer.
