Ag Weather Impacts

So far this week, we've had a couple cold front push the Columbia Gorge region. Rainfall amounts were mainly just a third of an inch or less. A few light showers are possible today, but with mostly dry weather, You'll have a good opportunity for field work Saturday, before the next significant rain arrives on Sunday into Monday with rainfall amounts again ¼ to ½ inch, but heavier amounts West of The Dalles. We've got good news for spraying with light winds today and Saturday. Those winds on Thursday were sure blustery with gusts to 37 mph at the The Dalles and 25 mph at Goldendale. Soil temperatures are in the lower 50s. Since there won't be much sunshine through the middle of next week, soils will only warm slowly only 2 to 3 degrees. For the first 2 weeks of April temperatures have averaged pretty close to normal than normal. The longer range models are not showing any sustained period of above normal temperatures through the rest of April. Although growing degree days base 40 are currently averaging 10-12 days ahead of normal, it is likely we could fall close to or slightly behind normal over the next few week.
